Meran and its surroundings
Meraner Land - out, up and down
If you feel like going for a stroll in the spa town of Meran, just a few kilometres from Schenna, there are sophisticated promenades, elegant villas, and splendid art nouveau-style façades of former Grand Hotels, to mention but a few prime examples. Most definitely worth a visit are the gardens of Trauttmansdorff, a successful combination of nature, art and culture, a genuine rarity in the whole of the alpine area.
To the east is the small mountain village of Hafling with its diminutive little church of St. Kathrein, surrounded by Hafling ponies, grazing or galloping in high spirits. A treat for the eyes, and not just for amateur photographers.
From the north Schenna is accessed via the twists and turns of the Jaufen and Timmelsjoch passes through the Passeier Valley, the home of the freedom fighter, Andreas Hofer.
At the foot of the Texel Group Nature Reserve with the largest high alpine lake district in South Tyrol, the Spronser Lakes, Tirol Castle invites visitors to go on an exciting journey through time. The neighbouring Tappeinerweg trail, with its wide variety of species of flora, winds in leisurely fashion to the arcades of Merano's old town.
